oil pulling

Happy Monday friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I know I did! It was great to catch up with friends and get away from the city for a bit.

I’m back with another coconut oil post and I’m excited to talk about a little trick I love doing for my mouth health. I wrote a post about coconut oil for your skin already if you want to check that out! There are many different ways to use coconut oil and this is one of my favourites.

Oil pulling is something everyone should be doing. It’s easy and the benefits are amazing.

I was born with no enamel on my teeth (I know it sucks) and therefore have a real hard time keeping my mouth in check. White strips and the whole shebang haven’t worked for me in the past and my teeth are way too sensitive to have any of those chemicals on my teeth.

When I heard about oil pulling and the benefits, I knew I had to try it right away. Something that could help my gum/teeth health and it wasn’t expensive? Sign me up.

After legit three times trying it out, my gums weren’t bleeding, my tooth pain stopped and my teeth were whiter. Now obviously not everyone is going to have my issues, but even the boyfriend loved the results! Who wouldn’t?

I’ve had quite a few people tell me they hated the taste of coconut oil in their mouth and I will admit that at first it’s kind of gross taking a spoon full of it. If you don’t like the taste of coconut, you can try sesame or sunflower oil as well! I really liked sesame, it kind of gave me a thai vibe in my mouth.

Basically what I do before bed/brushing my teeth, is take a small spoonful of the coconut oil and put it in my mouth. It will melt and become liquid fast, so just swish it around! The magic number is 20 minutes and before you talk yourself out of this, just try it. You can do a lot in that 20 minutes, like pack a lunch, organize your outfit for tomorrow, read/journal, etc. When the time is up, spit it out and brush your teeth.

It’s soooo simple and effective; it’s insane.

The oil of your choice, pulls toxins out of your mouth and is a magical unicorn I only wish I knew about sooner.

Try it out and let me know what you think! Like I said, if you can’t handle the taste of coconut, try the other options! They’re not as thick/frothy and are just as good! I think this is the perfect addition to anyone’s nightly routine and you should aim to do it every day!
